CLIENT: AUCKLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LIMITED
SERVICE PROVIDED: ENGINEER TO THE CONTRACT
COMPLETION: IN CONSTRUCTION
VALUE: $800 MILLION
Auckland Airport is one of the largest international airports in Australasia. Initially constructed in the 1960s, the airport is undergoing a $2.2 billion redevelopment project to improve capacity, usability and efficiency for the multitude of passengers who pass through each year.
Leveraging her extensive experience at providing a multi-dimensional approach to contract management, including her involvement in the early works for the new terminal, Urban Outcomes Limited Director Natasha Possenniskie has been appointed as Engineer to the Contract for this nationally significant project for New Zealand.
Scheduled to open in 2029, the 57,000m2 combined terminal consists of two brand new buildings, the Headhouse and the Pier, along with fitouts within the existing international terminal building to fully integrate the existing and new buildings. The Headhouse comprises 34,100 square metres over three floors of retail, airline lounges, modern baggage handling and collection systems, waiting areas and amenities. The Pier, at 230 metres long and 32 metres wide, comprises 22,800 square metres over two floors of arrival and departure lounges, jet link bridges, offices and amenities.
The new $800 million domestic jet facility will deliver 44% more processing space for travellers and 26% more airline seat capacity, as well as better connections between domestic and international travel - cutting domestic jet to international transfer times to a five-minute indoor walk. With a focus on doing the basics more efficiently, the terminal will offer improved passenger processing areas and a new check-in experience to provide state-of-the-art, world class facilities for both domestic and international travellers.
Natasha is working alongside Auckland International Airport Limited, Engineer’s Representative, Beca, and Main Contractor, Hawkins to ensure the successful delivery of what is one of the largest and most important infrastructure projects ever undertaken in New Zealand.
