BRANZ

Campus Redevelopment

CLIENT: BRANZ LTD

SERVICE PROVIDED: ENGINEER TO THE CONTRACT

COMPLETION: IN CONSTRUCTION

VALUE: $31 MILLION

The Building Research Association of New Zealand Incorporated (BRANZ) uses independent research, systems knowledge and its broad networks to identify practical solutions that improve New Zealand’s building system performance. The work that BRANZ does specifically focuses on identifying and understanding the issues facing the construction sector and translating its findings into initiatives that support the performance of the industry overall.

The BRANZ campus at Judgeford in Porirua has undergone a transformation involving the staged demolition of buildings on the existing campus to enable the construction of three new state-of-the-art structures providing a new fire laboratory, structures laboratory and administration building. The new fire and structures laboratories will allow advanced research and testing at full scale – meaning BRANZ scientists can test and observe in as close to realistic conditions as possible.

The facilities have been designed to create an innovative and collaborative workspace, incorporating safety-in-design and workflow principles, along with consideration of the needs of the end users and the minimising of the environmental impact of the buildings’ activities.

The redevelopment also incorporates new access routes, along with all associated site works and landscaping. In addition to the above, the existing fire laboratory building will be reconfigured, refurbished and repurposed into a shared storage building.

With Hawkins appointed as main contractor, this exciting development is to be undertaken in three stages over a three-year period and is due for completion in 2024.

Urban Outcomes Director Natasha Possenniskie has been appointed as independent Engineer to the Contract for this redevelopment, working alongside Project Managers RCP who are acting as Engineer’s Representative.
