St Francis Xavier School is located on the main road into Tawa and has a wide catchment area that extends from Johnsonville to Whitby. Catering for students from Year 1 to Year 6, the school has been in operation since 1960 and was in need of some major repairs and a rejuvenation throughout.
In December 2021 Urban Outcomes Limited commenced work on the upgrade of Block A at the school; a five-classroom block with library, main entrance and support functions. Phase One of the upgrade involved installing a new roof and skylights, repairs to ceilings, new lighting throughout the block, new heat pumps and a new sick bay.
The Phase Two works at St Francis Xavier School included replacement of all the external windows and doors and providing a sunshade over the children’s play area. This upgrade was completed in May 2023 and was quickly followed by the replacement of the administration building roof.
